What box on a TD04 setup?

Hi there,

I've been busy building a 4E-FTE with TD04 setup. It's running 1.3 bar of boost and is doing 250+ hp at the crank ar the moment. There's an Exedy 3 puk paddle clutch on the car which works fine, but I'm a bit afraid the gearbox isn't strong enough for al that power.

So what are common swaps for the gearbox? Has anybody ever tried fitting a Toyota E- or S-series gearbox to a 4E-FTE engine? These boxes can handle a lot more power then the C-series that are usually bolted to the FTE engines.

Hope you guys can share some experiences. Thanks in advance.

Gearbox will be fine at that power, it's only when you start running near 300 ft/lbs of torque it starts becoming a problem.

So you're actually saying it's running reliable? Even though I'm running twice the amount of power the box was designed for? Doesn't the box wear out faster? Do you need more regular oil changes etcetera?
Note that I'm gonna do some track-work with the car as well, so high revs and downchanges revving up the engine farely quickly will be the case...

It will be fine, people run 330bhp through these gearboxes before trouble starts occuring. Thea gearbox oil should be changed at regular intervals regardless of what power you are running. It is advised to keep an eye on the colour of the oil and any metal deposits.
