Hi kind of stuck here. what would u choose over a port and polised head or uprated cams. was thinkin:argue:about getting my cylinder head port & polished but at the same time i dont know weather to get cams instead would have both if i could but funds are short plus tryin to find a place local is hard. what would ur veiw be on this? And is it just cams or would i need harder valve springs too?

Whats your spec? Tbh unless you've got a fairly big spec list both are not needed and the heap of money could be spent elsewhere.

Klkl thats gd to know. not goin forged just sticking with standard internals. im not to shure about doin the port and polish my self read up on it and ppl say ur best to send it away because it will need gas flowed too. think al just go with the stand alone as i was thinkin about emb. would like emu tho.

Close your eyes and pay the extra for the better stand alone.
Managing power is the MOST important thing, especially when a engine is turbo charged.

There's your answer!

A standard engine won't be able to produce more power than a stock head can flow before busting a piston or possibly a rod. Porting the head will increase the volume of air it can flow into the cylinders at high engine speeds, but this will come at the expense of some low down torque. If it were me, I'd leave the head alone and put the money saved towards a standalone ECU. Not only will the standalone system unlock the full potential of the engine, it'll also provide the safest control of a stock engine allowing it to be pushed to it's limits without compromise.

In essence, a standalone ECU will likely reap better rewards from a stock engine than both a port/polish and hotter cams put together.

The Emanage Ultimate is a piggyback ECU not a standalone, it'll mean retaining the stock ECU. Some people like them, personally I wouldn't waste money on a piggyback ECU.

The first and foremost thing is to decide who your going to use to map whichever ECU you end up buying and speak to them before spending any money. Be clear as to what it is you want from the car and also what you may want in the future.

Dave theres a good mapper down in Kilmarnock that shaun knows about so that would be the best place to get it mapped thats relatively near bye you should speak to them!

At you state of tune, I would buy a PNP ECU like a Jam, Blitz or Mines. If you buy a standalone, you have to buy the ECU and pay for mapping, I would guess that in another 6 months you may have funds for some more mods, then you are going to have to pay for a remap to get the car running properly. With the PNP ECU, you just do the mods, reset it and let it sort out the tuning again.

That type of ECU will do you even if you decide to go forged, as long as you are not going mental with huge turbos and boost and they hold their money so you should get back what you paid for it if you decide to sell it again.
