What would you like to see? Car/General classified ads

Basically everyone rants and raves how **** gumtree is, the reality is, stuff does sell on it. However im currently creating an online classified ads, similar to the likes of donedeal, gumtree etc and was wanting to see if anyone had anything they would recommend as additional features. So what do you hate, love etc about the current classifieds could also be of a benefit to me.

Im aware people will comment on trying to 'rival' gumtree etc and it will fail... miserably, but this isn't the intention of the project, but simply to gain some more experience in a different field of software development that I am currently used to.

I say good luck 2 you pal it only takes the right idea and you could be on to a really good thing look at eBay!! That was just a idea once. Keep it up and you should have a wide variation of categories to pretty much cover anything a seller wants to get rid of.

I have something else in the pipeline at the minute that will is slightly more unique, well, for northern ireland anyway the classifieds site is simply to experiment with a few things thanks for the kind words mate

Ill tell you where Gumtree falls flat on its face is the fact you need to browse it using either town/city or county. A better method would be postcode then the option of how many miles you want to travel kinda like autotrader. Might be i just dnt know how to do it but this is a flaw in Gumtree you could improve on.

and as for ebay there fees are now stupidly high, i hope something comes along soon to rival it

Restrict dealers from posting brand new boring cars piston heads used to be good when you didn't have to filter through all the crap stuff to find the interesting cars dealers should stick to auto trader

a specific traders section is one of the features I have been thinking off, it will hopefully allow traders etc to have 'shops' a bit like an ebay shop

I done a quick search actually on ebay rivals, and there is actually plenty out there, none that have taken off unfortunately...

as said search by postcodes.
an option to search all products in an area, pheads is annnoying to find all cars within an area!

Its your decision, but if there too many places to sell your stuff, people dont cover them all. There are only so many things for sale, if they are spread over 2 sites then the chance of everyone looking for that item seeing them is high, over 5 sites, chances are low.

The thing that really annoys me about gumtree is when people add alot of extra non related info in the title and ad if you know what i mean, more often than enough i see (not bmw, evo, saxo or lexus) be better restricting that so you just get the ads you searched for save scrolling through the biggest pile of crap especially when looking for starlets lol

totally agree, but initially the intention isnt to rival other sites, if it does well, so be it, i'll push it even harder, if it doesn't do so well, its the exerience that counts for me

that is number one on my list lol i hate it, yet a i do it myself. may aswell if every other fuker does it..
