whats the verdict on GTI-R Pulsar's?

have a buddy interested in one of these and he's just wondering what people think of them?
what should he look out for?
good/bad points ect.

any help would be appreciated.

they eat gear boxes as far as i now when there pushing big power

My mates just recently bought one, with in a week it spat a rod, and was only running 8psi, so they seem pretty reliable

the one the lad is looking at has a good lash of work done including a full rebuild using the likes of HKS forged pistons and rings,metal head gasket,walbro fuel pump,xspower fmic,all new gaskets the time of the rebuild ect. !

It's a good strong engine, also used in the newer Silvia's (200sx S14 & S15) known as the SR20DET. The gearbox is the weakest link though, but this is solved by fitting a new one. It's "cheap" to buy, but expensive in maintenance.

And also check the rear arches as they rust real bad

Stocks brakes are shocking bad, and as said gearboxes go easily

as above, they rust really badly not just on rear arches, but all underneath aswell, also check the engine mounting brackets havent cracked etc

A sunny with a pulsar engine not really same mate as the real thing as they are 4 wheel drive mate

the only way around the gearbox problem is to buy a quiffe gearbox, think they are made stronger as they cost a lot more than the standard pulsar gearbox

As long as u dont launch them the gear boxes are fine! but they are an absouloute bitch to work on!!! like full on bitch!! lol so as long as he dont mind a car that is dificult to work on then go for it even standard they are absoloute monsters!!!!!

Yeah dantheman has had about 5 of them? one of his had a quaiffe box in it one of them and it still broke

Fuel wise i think there on par with subaru's my impreza was doing around 18-22mpg on average

its all about if u launch them guys they cant take being launched if u pull away then put ya foot down rather than launching they will be fine

i been in a tuned one, didnt think it was that impressive 2bh. fuel economy is apsolutely horrendous ile warn u now lol. shame they dnt do an engine and transmission change in one lol cus they are the best lookin car ever. just unreliable.

can put an audi gearbox/drivetrain on them,and can change from 4wd.
