Who makes vernier cam gears?

Is there any workshops or performance stores that can make a vernier cam gear for the 4efte engine.The mechanic working on my car at the moment wants to know if they are produced anywhere.If not who is capable of making one.And what exactly do they do. I couldnt really understand when he was explaining to me what they do.Does it make a big difference to the timing and is it worth the $$ per bhp?Anyone have any experiences with these? any comments would be much appreciated

is this the same thing as the vernier cam gear....or is a pulley just another word for it
