***X-rayed HKS BOV***

Hey again people,

well i thought i would get my newley acquired BOV shot thru today, and wow, its some engineering in that little space. However I have a few flaws with the castings....

I couldnt get a photo any clearer due to the fil being to large for the viewer at work..

This is the HKS adapter to fit straight on to the hose, obviously on the outside its lovely and smooth, but what you cant see with your eyes is the pitting in the casting. Thats the black, dark patchy spots, soo if the pitting is very bad the cast is not very strong. I would of though HKS would have some sort of QC over these no??

And on the one you really have to squint, but yet again because of the casting procedure, either a drop, harsh knock or excessive pressure, i dnt know what, has caused a very small hairline crack. Not detrimental im sure, we let larger cracks, lack of fusion etc pass at work lol.

Other than that im glad i bought it off Nick, it sounds savage now, and wether its my mind or not, there seems to be less lag on the ct9 and virtually no turbo chatter. Or I just cant hear it now lol.

Enjoy Tyler.

off topic bit i went thru an airport baggage scanner once to see what piercings it would show up! Probably can't have kids now!

Haha thats ace!

Its minimal for that sort of application, think, the rays only have to penetrate a cloth bag, not 60mm thick carbon steel like us, which would actually turn ya nuts to liquid lol.

haha thats fun mate! I look at those X-rays also very much, as i am a welder and my welds are getting x-rayed every day :D

That is cool!! I watched a program a while back where F1 engine pistons get scanned to see for any structual weakness, where the alloy has not fused enough, after they have been forged. If the piston did not past the quality test, it would be remade as jus' a small hairline fracture can weaken it under the conditions it has to withstand and will eventually give up.

@redhot,

i dont know really, obviously im limited to size. The TMIC is the biggest i can bomb.

I read somewhere that an f1 engine when not running, is practically fused together due to the very extreme tolerances. Could be wrong.

Looks funky!

Would you be able to X-Ray a stock turbo? It would be very interesting to see the internals of one...

Is it true now that they you hospital radiographers dont actually use films no more? I ask because back in August i had to get my ankle X-rayed as i thought id broke it at football 24hrs earlier, but found out id just torn the outside ligaments, they had the graphs on a pc screen, and not a film in sight!!

@monkfish....If i get hold of one off ebay or summat, maybe when i change mine, i can shoot that, it will just be about small enough. And thats the next one i had planned too. If anyone wants to send me a FUBAR one to see.....

Such a class way of seeing how these things are put together. Gives excellent insight into their workings.

Well done dude!
