Without wanting to turn this into a PS3 vs 360 debate, I wouldn't get a PS3 just yet unless you specifically wanted a Blu-Ray player. The PS3 doesn't have a huge amount of games for it at present and it's online community is limited. Wait a year or so, the prices will drop, more games will be available and more people will be online.
If you're looking to buy a Blu-Ray player then buy a PS3. Blu-Ray players are hellish expensive at the moment and if you buy a PS3 it'll double up as a player and a console.
