Stock 3.722 vrs TRD 4.733 vrs 4.1 Final Drives

The left column is for guys running a common Drag slick size tyre, the right one is for guys running a typical street/semi slick style tyre. Surprising just how much the tyre effects the final outcome of each gear! Rated for for 7000rpm and 7500rpm, also for comparison of guys thinking of raised their limiter slightly. All these are baised on the Mk1 GT gearbox ratios.

Awesome info. The TRD final drive still available to buy? Would be perfect for a 200hp ep, only thing is you can not hit 60 in second gear + fuel consumption would go out the window on a highway journey. Would be awesome in a tight handling circuit or point to point sprint. Looking forward to see the 4.1 final drive!

Yea you can still get the TRD final drive. I've put up the 4.1 info.

hey, i know its an old thread but did you get around to the 4.3 figures?

am also wondering how these different ratios will affect boost

Thanks

Erm I'm not sure if I did, I'll have to check the other laptop and see if I have them on there. I fitted the 4.1, it was a bad choice for my power but on something 250hp or less it would work a treat, can really feel her accelerate better.

ok, was looking into the 4.3...do you think it'll be good for a 220-230 bhp GT? why you said the 4.1 it was a bad choice for you? (i might need a crash course in understanding gear ratios)

after comparing the C52 with the C56 (Glanza V) seems that because of the longer 3rd and 4th the gbox had a final of 4.3

so..am i right in saying that installing a 4.3 final drive on a C52 will be a good upgrade? still not sure how it'll affect boost thou

The 4.7 will basically stop your car at 90mph. The 4.3 with 145whp stopped the car at 120mph at maximum rpm. So a 200hp car with a 4.3 final drive will be crazy. From my experience the final drive doesn't affect the general speed in each gear. You can still hit 60mph in second. What it does affect is how fast it will take to get through that gear and top speed. However as you increase hp and torque, since the gearbox is a torque multiplier those factors will change significantly.

i take it you mean it'll be crazy in a good way? lol

i dont mind losing top speed since ive never hit 180 km/h

why is the tyre width making a difference in the top speed? surely the circumference should make the difference, but seen as both tyres are 50/15, i dont get why there is a big difference in speed.

tyre pressure?

or am i missing something simple?

50 in a tyre means 50% of the width in height so the wider it is with a 50 will make it taller.

A 4.1 on a 250hp or less motor would be good.

rolling diameter = ((tyre width in mm x tyre profile)/25.4 to convert to inches)x2 + rim size
195mm x .5 = 97.5mm/25.4 = 3.8inches x 2 = 7.6inches + 15inches = 22.6
205mm x .4 = 82mm/25.4 = 3.2inches x 2 = 6.4inches + 16 = 22.4

As you can see here, this is why I don't use 45 series 16-inch tyres on the Starlet. Besides more tyre scrub you'll lengthen the gearing.

How can I know if my gt has the TRD Close Ratio Transmission? I´m wondering because at 100kmh (60mph) the engine is running at 3300rpms +/- in 5th gear. In 4th gear at 6000rpm i'm going like at 140kmh (88mph)

Is that normal????? BTW my gt also has lsd.
