i used to get this, as an easy fix id just chuck some hot water over the wheel and brake and it seemed to do the trick...

have to say i was told to WD40 as much stuff as possible and ive not had it since

Forgot to mention - one of the mechanics said that if you drive with the brake playing up, the grease will burn/melt and you will destroy the bearing... just something to watch out for

Darn handbrake seized up today for the first time, mind it was -7 degrees celsius. Attacked it with WD40 that did'nt seem to work so i filled up a empty container with a nozzle/spray with hot water and that jus' 'bout released them.

So hot water seems to do the trick then...

Well, just gonna park it up in 1st tonite with some bricks under the tyres, should be fine.

Maybe may bearing will start fucking up then, I drove for a few 100 yards today on 3 wheels!

Is it actually cable that gets stuck then, not the calipers/brakes?

What can be done about it?

I had this problem today aswell, couldn't determine wether it was calipers/brakes, i boiled the kettle and threw it on em, seemed to do the trick, did notice hanbrake was a lot stiffer, it felt like driving with the handbrake on, never had this problem before when its been freezing.

Yes, it's the handbrake cable that freezes. You can't do anything about it, or you'll have to install a hydrolic handbrake system:p

The standard handbrake cables are mechanical. These allways get some moisture in them, and when that freezes, the cable won't move.

East sort,

Let hand brake off in car, put in gear.
Go to back of car,
Lay/kneel down,
Look at calliper, find lever,
Pull on it, it will free the cable,
Get up
Job done.

If you cant pull on it, lever it with something

had same problem 3 days in a row, keep leaving brakes off with it in gear and bricks under wheels only way to sort it.
going to strip it at some point and WD40 everything.

seems to be the hand brake cable sticking more than the brakes though. i did drive it the first day hoping it would warm up after 2mins and got lots of sideways action

FWD cars can drift!

Ahh cool.

That is what I was reffering to. Someone advised at work that some sort of grease may stop it.

How long would the grease last when applied?

Just knock the shit out of the caliper with a chissel and hammer.. that donet he trick for me!!! But i looked like a proper loon, and i was late for work!!!
