I had seen a few topics about rear fog lights for MOT's, and today mine seemed to stop working so I decided to finally put it into the rear clusers as I don't like the fog light just randomly being stuck on the bottom of the car, looks shit in my opinion. Since a few folk have asked about them I thought I'd take some pics to hopefully help out future members Unfortunately it's not a comprehensive guide due to having one already, but for members who don't have one, all you need is a switch, some wiring from the switch long enough to reach the rear clusters and hook the switch up to an earth and live.
To start with, here's how it looked:
Again I never took pics of me stripping down the old one, and since my car had one, it had the wiring running through the cabin already, that needed stripped off, I also did a continuity check to make sure there was no problem with the wiring, hence the multimeter in the pic:
Since I was planning on using one of the reverse lights, I doubled checked to make sure they worked as well before I bothered to do the swap! And also to confirm which bulb I needed to use:
Once I had confirmed that, I set about cutting off the wiring and the bulb, remembering to leave enough wire to make it easy to rejoin the connection:
Once I had snipped hte wires, again I checked to make sure that the reverse light that I wanted to keep still worked, as I was unsure of whether or not it was a circuit of both lights, and one wouldn't work without hte other, it wasn't so it was all good to seal the wires and protect them from water, I did this with some heat shrink, although tapped them up as well to make sure:
Once that was completed I just joined the wires from the bulb to the wires from the switch, ran the wire through the grommit and plugged the bulb back in.
I didn't take any more pics except when I was finished as it was getting real cold! And due ot the light, one didn't come out well but here's the finished article:
I would like to have had the whole car in shot to show it isn't just a reverse light, but light conditions means I couldn't. Although here was the pics anyway:
Although I know the bulb is the wrong colour just now, but that will get sorted soon enough!
Hope this helps anyone with rear fog lamp trouble. Or for members like me who just doen't like those stupid ones that hang from the bottom of the bumper!
