Here it's 400mcg breath per litre of breath or 80mg blood per 100ml's if you're over the age of 20. After having tested myself at various stages of drinking, I wouldn't be comfortable driving even below the legal limit, I'm definitely impaired, a fact backed up by plenty of evidence.

If you're blowing double the legal limit (35 mcg / 100ml breath according to a quick search) there's no way that you weren't significantly impaired and you should have known that. There's no way I'd want you in control of what has the potential to be a deadly weapon at double the legal limit, I agree 100% with the action the police took and I'm pretty shocked at the attitude of so many that being 'just 2mg' over the limit is okay. The limits are set for a reason, if you're over, you're over. It's not the police's fault - it's YOURS.

All that said, it's obviously a few more than a few drinks if early afternoon the following day after some food and coffee you're blowing double the legal limit. If you're regularly drinking to that extent then you have issues outside of losing your license.

I couldn't have said it any better myself. The attitude of some people on this site is absolutely shocking.

i hate the law on drink driving, on the units ure allowed to drive on, i feel pretty pissed at this point coz im a light wieght and there is no way that i could drive a car especially a gt, where as my mate could drink 10 times that amount and still be capable of driving much better than me, its a crappy un thought out law.

I agree sam. Have no respect for drink drivers whatsoever. And I'm pretty shocked by the views of people in this thread. Two boys I used to work with were in a crash caused by a drunk driver. One mate died and the other spent over a year recovering from the operations he had to keep getting to sort him out after the crash.

I wouldn't say it's not been thought out, you can't have one number for some and a higher one for others. Still 2mg over the limit is still far from sober so double the limit is even worse!

tbh I won't even have a small bottle and drive I recon it'd put me over the limit due to my size and weight etc + its really not worth risking lives and your licence in the long run.

Dont drink and drive. The message is clear and only an idiot would do it.
How would you feel if you knew there was a drunk driver out driving with one of you loved ones in the car with them? Or even driving along the same road in opposite direction as them??
Anything could happen as they are not in control of what is essentially a deadly weapon in these cases.
Drink drivers are scum. Anyone that condones it should have there liscense removed for good.

That's some decent common sense right there. A fair few could learn from your attitude mate.

Cheers bud, I've had mates die due to drink drivers, I've even some mates that think it's fine to drink and drive and often say 'I drive better drunk' this is clearly the wrong attitude and one many people adopt! It's safe to say I'd rather walk home than get in their car. I have however driven a mates car due to him being drunk and wanting to get somewhere (I was sober) so in theory I was uninsured but I didn't want to risk him killing him self or someone else.

I remember a smilar thing with a member on here but this was the night after.

It's the risk you take when you drive the day after a boozing session.

think we should all get off our high horse here. how many of us drink on a saturday and drive on a sunday afternoon being honest.

the guy assumed he was under the limit. he didnt go to the pub , drink ten pints then drive home. just a little more education is needed about how many hours we need to sober up is needed, not the pc brigade weighing in.

this is an awkward one for me, I completly and utterly disagree with what you done (drink driving) however I do the same (go out, drive the car the next day) and to be frank id confidently say we all do! but im now really worried that i might have been drink driving

what time did you go back and get the car?

i do this all the time but i usually wait till at least 2/3pm before trying to go anywhere and i always stop drinking prior to midnight then drink water till 2am. it was in the news not too long ago about people drink driving without actually realising that they were doing it (driving the next morning) im a big fan of the idea of breathalisers that you can buy to make sure your not "drunk" but i agree that it may become a case of "i can have another one im not quite on the limit yet"

the problem with drinking is that its not a constant, iv always been quite a light drinker, never got so drunk as not to be able to stand BUT my body is very resistant to drink and i need quite alot before i start felling it, im quite stocky built, where as my mate who resembles a skeleton is wasted after 2! everyone handles it differently.

best of luck tho mate, best advice i can give is to go in and be honest, thats the best you can do

Agree'd I don't think many people are aware the extent of alcohol left in your system the next day. Some may still feel the affects, others don't!

Sorry hear that your going to be an awkward situation.

I think the law should be no drinking and driving at all i just dont understand why people need to have a limit to drive you shouldnt be allowed to full stop.

I never drive the next day either. Last saturday i only had 4 corona's on a night out and then i went to water for rest of night so i was sober at home at 2am but i still wouldnt drive the entire next day nothing is worth chancing.

Agree'd there mate If I've had a few I've no problem driving the next morning as I know it'll be gone, I think it was Matchew that said how much units leave your body per hour or something like that.

bmw are developing a system that does not start the car if it senses a high volume of alchohol in your breath

Lol I remeber I had an idea about that when I was 14/15 about developing a system to put in cars of people that had been banned from drink driving and get there licence back which would be a breathaliser type thing wired in to the ignition which they'd have to pay for if they wanted to drive again! If I had the money back then I would have put it in to action :*(

american i think but sure u could get on over here

Yeah would work well... theres a guy where I use to work who got banned for drink driving before he passed his test, got his licence back recently I asked if he was going to stop he was like hah no! would be a good system to have in place with maybe a pager thing that pages police if your like litrally wasted and trying to drive that way they could stop you being on the road, causing havok and get you off again.

Good luck in court though mate, I sure you'd learnt your lesson and wasnt intentional.
