So it means that the steering rack has vacuum line in and out. The Corolla doesn’t have it. It would be nice to see a picture where it is to possibly modify it in the future. Those lines head down to the steering rack on a Starlet.
The purpose of this job was to reactivate the vacuum line that raises RPM when moving the steering wheel. Both FE and FTE, inlet manifold, have the vacuum lines coming out to feed this purpose. The difference is that as you said, one on the Starlet goes to the steering rack and the other on the Corolla goes to the steering pump. I would love to be able to reconnect it to the steering rack, but I would have to either adapt the Corolla rack and fit in the sensor or either adopt a Starlet steering rack to the Corolla. Will be hunting through steering stuff at the weekend so I'll grab a pic of a Starlet rack.
Haven't any experience with the Corollas but you can see the same thing in that first diagram (labelled 17630).
Looks like the 4EFTE takes all it's vacuum feeds from the vacuum block (the bent metal pipe under the inlet manifold labelled 17303 no1) so you should be able to delete the Corolla vacuum pump?
I removed the sensor on the Corolla steering pump. I have on the side and unfortunately the sensor hits a metal plate that means tapping into the rack won’t be useful without the metal plate. I will upload a picture later.I'm not 100% on how the whole set up works, will need to do a bit of reading on the subject before advising.
As far as tapping into the rack without removal, you would need to be sure you aren't going to introduce any swarth/metal filings into the rack itself. Don't think it would be a huge issue but best to err to the side of caution.
Not at all. I would just connect the hoses from the inlet that that usually in the Starlet goes to the steering rack straight to the steering pump. It is the exact system, but it just feeds steering oil pressure from two different points in the same system. You can see it in the description pictures I posted at the beginning of the thread.I think I understand.
The corolla pump has issues fitting to the 4efte, I've sourced a few bits for @aubreygil there today.
Brackets shouldn't be an issue but you'd probably need the same hoses and bottle that he needed?
Thank you for the pictures. I confirm it is from a Glanza.Just for reference, I think this is from a glanza.
Thank youOnly retrieved the rack from the container today, I'll be draining it at the weekend to remove the pipework so I can unbolt this union to investigate. Will update with pics.
Thank you for the effort!Well thats the rack attacked this morning. Pics attached for reference. Looks like you could theoretically swap it for a corolla version but you would need both on the bench in front of you to be 100%
