2nd gear issue

shifting from 1st to 2nd only grates at high rpm , so I'm not able to drag race the car , it shifts normally under normal driving ,new clutch ,pressure plate , flywheel and release bearing , the master and slave cylinder (hydraulics) are good , the gearbox was opened , syncros and gears very good , the adjustment on the clutch peddle was adjusted for optimum travel and I'm using redline MT90 oil , the only thing that i have not changed is the shifter or bushings
Any one experienced similar problems?

I did. It turned out that I was losing hydraulic pressure from the slave cylinder when engaging the clutch speedily for quick shifts, but it was fine if the clutch was engaged more slowly. I though my slave cylinder was fine and a synchro was going but the problem disappeared when it was changed.

it shifts clean in to the rest of gears at high rpm .... thats why i didnt think hydraulic pressure..

Oddly enough, the rest of the gears were shifting cleanly on mine as well, it was only 2nd gear that was giving a crunch.

I have problems with 2nd , just after changing my clutch / flywheel , its was a pain to get the rear gearbox mount back on. I'm not sure how to sort it out

I might try change the slave cylinder it could be old .

how would engine mounts have anything to do with anything..? :rolleyes:

Oh you'll be surprised how important they are!!! I replaced mine to the TRD ones and it was like a day and night, the handling has improved straight away. my manifold was blowing because of the engine mounts play, so I won't be surprised if that will have someting to do with the gearbox/clutch as well -)

Problem Solved , reopened the gearbox , 2nd gear seemed worn , used another secondary shaft , shifts clean now !!!
