3e vs 5e

As above, I am just wondering what the differences between the two are as in the bore and stroke etc an is it easy to get parts for the 3e IF its not the same as the 5e. I really know nothing about the 3e engine so any help would be great. Thanks in advance :)

Im not 100% either and would also like to no, i think the 3e and 5e have the same journal sizes ect, but the 5e crank has a greater stroke, or are they the same cranks? thats a half guess??

Some one who knows will take over from now..

basic overview is

3e bore 73mm
5e bore 74mm

pistons are very different in configuration, the 3et pistons are actually stronger material than 4e/5e but not as good in design and coupled with the head design they are more prone to cracking ringlands especially due to timing.

stroke is the same
crank is the same
rod length is the same

cylinder heads are obviously 3e single cam 12v and 5e twin cam 16v

cheers

Yes mate, if your building a 5e, use the 3e-te flywheel and it will then take the 4e clutches!
