Access through firewall

I'm trying to fit a boost gauge and when fishing vac hose through the firewall from engine bay grommet on the passenger side I cannot seem to find it under the foot well, I've removed the glove box also.

These might help. There's a bit of sound deadening that can get in the way plus the heating boxes are pain too.

UK EP80 but GT's are close.

I was worried that it might be behind that heater box thing. So that'll have to be removed?

I would usually thread a length of wire (I have an old spool of very thick solder wire which is my go-to for this) in first to lead the way as i can angle it better. Then I'd use it to feed the vacuum pipe through. Can be a bit of a fudge hooking/keeping them together so rehearse a few swear words.

This sort of thing is better as a two man job so get someone to lend a hand if you can.

I usually stick the end of the hose to a wire hanger with masking tape and poke it through.

Yep, coat hanger would be a possible idea. Don't have any spec on this roll as its as old as the hills but approx 1.4mm thick.

I've used a coat hanger too :) my air con is gone so I'm going to use the A/C pipe holes when I redo all my boost pipes and cables from the bay to inside the car, currently the boost guage pipe is fed through the speedo cable gromet and Profec cable through an existing hole, I had to cut the plug of and reconnect it, not ideal and avoid if possible

Front the glove box area where is the grommet I'm feeding the pipe through. Surely I don't have to remove all of thst to access the grommet from the inside of the car?

The grommet sits behind that grey box so you would need to angle the pipe downwards when feeding it from the outside and pick it up in the footwell. Because there's sound deadening/insulation in the way it can be pot luck. Use a wire first to do this then attach a pipe to the end that you can pull through.

Ok ill give it another crack in the morning. I've torn the rubber grommet feeding the pipe through is it worth putting a blob of black silicone/sealer to block the tear. To stop any fumes etc.?

in addition to what the others said with the wire trick ...you may need slightly pull back the carpet and sound reducing material from behind/under the dashboard, get a small search/phone light and lay down in the passenger footwell and spot the light behind the dashboard by the rubber grommet on the firewall...it will be a bit uncomfortable for you, but you should find what you're looking for

there is no need to remove the heater or anything else
