Advice on smoking problem needed please

Right lets start from the beggining, my car started smoking on idle so i did a compression test and all was 150psi, so i opted for changing the turbo, i bought one off this guy from uksc he said it was perfect working order, well after a little while and not much comunication once i had paid the turbo arrive, first of all there was more play in it than my turbo, but i thought i may as well stick it on as i was going japfest the next day and i didn't want a smoking turbo in the traffic. well as soon as i started it smoke puffed out the back and it smokes a little on idle, but more importantly my car now smokes if i say am slowing down to a roundabout, not neccessary after a spot of hard driving just like a puff comes out the back, also my mate said it was smoking a little when i booted it past him.
It never did this before with my old turbo on so im guessing it has to be the new turbo i bought, i know it sounds like other things as well like possibly valve stem seals, rings etc.

So i just wanted your opinions.

Sorry for the long and drawn out build up but i thought it would be good if i put you in the picture.

Cheers for your time.

so guessing if i compression test again i know it's not rings and could either be the tur bo or valve stem, seels? but would it smoke even on excelleration if valve stem seals? just seems so strange that this started intsantly after changing turbos

Its not actually a hybrid by the looks of it, just has the wastegate ported, rebuilt maybe, seems a good replacement ct9 for those who dont want second hand or hybrid?

the problem with a compression test is it will not show worn oil rings, you may well have had 150psi across all cyclinders, but as said it wont show a worn oil ring

has the engine ever had a bottom end rebuild? if so and its been done correctly, you can normally say its not the oil rings

my bet would be on worn stem seals or guides; a good test to do is to find a big steep hill; overrun down the hill and give the car a boot at the bottom - if you get lots of blue smoke i would say its probably stem seals or maybe guides

it will be your turbo mate, as you said before your original turbo has less shaft play than the one you have now, which would explain the more smoke.

I had a similar problem, big plum of smoke when decelerating and a small amount when boosting it turned out to be the stem seals, when you took off your own turbo was there any signs of oil residue in the cat side or a film of oil in your intercooler (more than usual if you had some before) ?

99% sure its your stem seals bud mine is doin the exact same thing gettin them done soon, make sure you keep an eye on your oil or youll be fucked alltogether,gt turbos are a cunt for burning it

there is what i'd say as alot of oil in my intercooler pipes, like a film at least.
Im gunna change the turbo as it's the cheapest option, plus then im starting to iliminate things it could be.

I know it could be stem seals but just seems very strange that this started as soon as i fitted the new turbo if you all know what i mean?

Thankyou for your contributions you've help me decide what actions to take!

my car was smoking on idle for the last few weeks and when slowing down but mainly when in traffic big puffs of smoke and evaporing smoke of the turbo when u pop the bonnet so i was told it was the turbo seals!

replaced the turbo today with a good second hand ct9 and my smoking is gone and im happy out so i would get a secondhand turbo mate and throw it in and see how u get on!
