yeah the rally set up sounds great but whast will limiting to 6 k revs do?? also what do you recon hight boost on a k1 is wouldnt of thort it would be any good at more that 1.2 bar?
really interesting topic this one. A 5e k1 rally slag what a weapon on a motec of course with antilag .......

well the 3sgte wrc cars didn't rev very high because it was setup for high boost pressures 2.4bar but because this was on such a small turbocharger the torque used to drop right off at high rpm's so they just counter acted this with a lower rev limit, which massivly reduces stress on the engine and a close ratio box so you didn't need to rev the nuts off it.

i just did a 700 mile service rebuild on a friends armin swatz's st185, rally de-corsica gravel spec rally car. he had that dyno'd at 2.7bar boost at 350bhp and 590ft/lbs torque. tops out at about 100mph but gets there bloody fast.

wow i used to run with some lads into mr2's helped my mate with his build. you can get some serious power from the 3sgte but i agree with you its easy to get lost and chase big hp figures im gonna look into this a bit more do you know if they lighten the engine ie flywheel crank etc i know theres a big argument both for and against this

well i've done a 955bhp 3sgte in the past. was doing low 10's on the strip but was capable of 9's because we kept snapping shafts all the time :( had to keep babing it off the line.

that car was bloody quick but on the road it was useless, it was tuned for pure power at topend ie a drag setup at 5000rpm it was making 78bhp but by 6000rpm 690bhp then just kept climbing to 9500rpm. unless you got on a straight a 300bhp car would eat it alive and it was so unreliable.

think there is alot to be said for a good alrounder car, i think the perfect power for a glanza is 200-250bhp tops anyway for handling etc. the blitz k1 is capable of over 200bhp, heard 230at the wheels before so thats near the 250max i said. So taking the turbo for that power the 5e would just bring it all in quicker making more torque.

i for one would be very intersted to see a small hybrid on a larger capacity engine, and not build for pure power but low/mid range responce and spool.

i've got a 5e engine here but begrudging building it as my glanza is my everyday car and don't want to get drawn into big numbers from it. but i also have a jam manfiold and K1 turbocharger so curiosity wants me to put them together and coupled with a short run ARC intercooler and methanol injection i think would make the ultimate responce starlet. just mixed minds weather or not the arc will fit under the bonnet with a 5e or not.

lightweight crank and flywheel is good if your in a rev happy enviroment, but if you like to cruise or sit at a constant speed like 30 - 40 motorway etc then you don't want to go to light as the momentum stored in those heavier parts really effects how the car performs and feels. i've got a fidanza on mine and it made a slight difference but nothing to really write home about but it made a bigger negative effect on the motorway cruising, engine works harder, is louder and i would imagine that would effect MPG as well.

955 wow thats insane lol. im the same as you ive got the k1 and manifold downpipe 5e etc but the 5e was ment for the vf34 im not sure if im even bothered about making the vf build any more but ive made the side exit and intercooler pipes and the turbo i bought brand new it would be a bit of a waste tbh.....
really tempted tho to use the 5e ive read they use high compresion in rally cars is there any way to make 4e/5e hybrid take more compresion?
is speedvision still the cheapest place to buy a full build kit from ..... i really need to think this thru lol
oh and tim you've obviously had head work done in the past any suggestions where im a bit worried i dont want a flapper wheel just pushing in and out then charging me a fortune i belive you should get what you pay for

lots of way to raise the compression. small head gasket, skim the head ideally custom pistons but i wouldn't go to mad with them.

there is alot more to it than just pushing a flap wheel in and out lol, its all about ballancing air flow with measuring capacity and then onto a flow bench to ballance
