charging problem??

id try a different battery, i think the light on the dash goes on if it drops below a certain voltage. it is a 12 volt battery you have got?

Is the car starting? Cant see how it would start at all if the battery is only 10 volts:confused:

For future reference:
Voltage State of charge
12.65V 100%
12.45V 75%
12.24V 50%
12.06V 25%
11.89V or less Discharged

Hope this helps

Yeah was thinking that. No way it would start at anything below 12v to be honest. Change battery would be next logical step yeah.

wouldnt start much now yeah... as you know on any forum site it gets confusing when alot of suggestions flow in for one problem and that normally leads 2 someone replacing alot of things that dont need replacing.. its like anything really.. its a process of elimination :)

The charging indicator lamp should only come on when the alternator is not providing sufficient charge to the battery. The indicator lamp is grounded (which causes the lamp to illuminate) by the voltage regulator located on the back of the alternator, when the alternator begins to provide a sufficient output, the output voltage is applied to the ground side of the indicator lamp (this causes the lamp to go out). If the indicator lamp does not go out after the engine has been started, then it's likely either the alternator is not providing any output voltage, the voltage regulator has failed or one or more of the fuses that feed the regulator have blown, there is a wiring fault between the battery and alternator or there is a short to ground between the charging indicator lamp and the alternator.

The below flow diagram might help you identify the fault:
