Finally this week we got started on david cree's white gt4 st205.
This has come to us with the intention of a semi road going, possibly track orientated car. david provided alot of the parts so were doing all the strip and installation. There were also a few issues with the Mcpherson kit installed previously and an ABS issue that we were asked to repair.
The abs error turned out to be a multitude of things, First off we couldn't get any error codes from the system them found out that someone had removed the bulb, so refitted a bulb and got the following codes, 32/41/42/44/45/49/51. So the system was reset, a quick test drive and retest which resulted in just 32 which is passenger front sensor circuit break. Upon inspection of that area we found that during the mcpherson conversion on the car the st205 abs sensors had been cabled tied to the lower st202 arms but didn't leave enough slack for turning, so first full lock its snapped the sensor few other issues were the brakes were leaking because there wasn't any copper washers fitted on the brake banjo bolts, The st205 brake lines sat incorrectly on the st202 mcphersons rubbing the lines almost through on the suspension cups, Bottom ball joints gaitors split, blowing flexy section in the exhaust, CV joint gaitor failed and the brake pads badly groved from where the pad doesn't sit properly onto the disks (st205 4 pots fitted onto st185/202 front hubs.) There was also some means of attaching the calipers to the hubs as in both cases the are drilled holes without any thread. There is also something fishy going on with the track rod ends sitting in the hub, the nuts were tight but the tapers offered no grip what so ever, they just popped out once the nut was removed. I'll have to do some research but i'm wandering if there is a different taper on the st205 rack ends compared to the hubs being used....I shall investigate
So pictures so far from the build
