So what's the full PC specs in the end? Also where did you buy it?

  • Intel Core i5 3570K 3.4GHz Socket 1155
  • Noctua NH-C12P aluminium with copper base Processor Cooler
  • Asus P8Z77-M PRO Z77 Socket 1155 8 Channel HD Audio mATX Motherboard
  • Corsair 16GB (4x4GB) DDR3 1600MHz Vengeance Blue Memory Kit CL9 (9-9-9-24) 1.5V
  • MSI GeForce GTX 570 Twin Frozr III Power Edition/OC 1280MB GDDR5 (770MHz Core, 1540 MHz Shader)
  • Corsair 120GB Force 3 SSD 2.5" SATA-III 6Gb/s Read = 550MB/s, Write = 510MB/s
  • Samsung HD103SJ Spinpoint F3 1TB Hard Drive SATAII 7200rpm 32MB Cache
  • LiteOn iHAS124 24x DVD±RW DL & RAM SATA Optical Drive
  • Sharkoon T9 Case - Black Edition
  • 27" IIyama ProLite E2773HDS LED HD monitor
  • Microsoft Windows 7 Professional

One thing though, the Noctua NH-C12P cooler doesn't fit with Corsair Vengeance RAM, I thought I'd get away with this but sadly my measurements were far from accurate. Still, my plan is to shave the bottom half of the end 4 cooling fins on the heat sink so it'll sit over the memory, I can't see this causing an issue considering the Noctua cooler is about 10 times larger than the stock Intel cooler I'm currently having to use.

It'll run Battlefield 3 and MW3 in full HD 1920x1080 with the video setting cranked all the way up without even flinching, from pressing the power button to Windows booting to the desktop takes 8 seconds!

I was intending to buy from Novatech purely because the Bristol branch is 10 minutes down the road, but some of the items had a lead time of 2-3 days and at short notice I found I had this weekend free (perfect opportunity to waste a couple of days sorting the PC out), so Novatech weren't able to get me what I wanted in time.

All praise goes to Ebuyer.com this time, order by 11pm and the delivery guy is knocking on your door at 7.30am in the morning , I don't think a quicker delivery could have been possible!

Yeah no problem shaving the cooler, see that Noctua 14 can adjust the height of the fan so it fits bigger ram.

The size of the cooler is so massive, that would mean that the fan will be on low RPM giving and low noise and even if the fan fails the CPU will be still within limits. The stock cooler has high RPM fan, so the cooler could be small, also it's designed to run stock clocks only.

I play BF3 as well, PM me your nick name -)

How much was the PC cost in total then?

Can you test you ssd with http://www.hdtune.com/ please?

Why did you go for 570? or was it your old grapchics card?

I haven't played it that much, TBH the main reason I bought the game was to test the video card. Nickname is Dirk Shizer.

Including the monitor, video card and PSU I bought in March, the whole lot stands me in at approx £1300.

Just installed it, any test in particular?

I'm not a big fan of ATI cards, the hardware performs very well for the price but the drivers have never been their strong point. I know several people that have bought high end ATI cards and had numerous trouble with them, although other people seem to swear by them. I went for the 570 as the price vs performance out of the box appeared to be better value for money compared to the 560 and 580.

Just do a reading test, and put the screen shot on please. Want to compare it to OCZ drive, also let me know how much free space have you got on the drive.

I think ATI did a very good job with recent grapchics cards. Nvidia also has problems with drivers by the way, yes they do good cards no doubt about it, it's the price which I don't like as for the same money you get better performance from ATI.

Pretty good speed here, my OCZ was a bit faster toping just over 400 mb/s when it was half empty -) now when it's 85% full I barely get 350 mb/s.

And your access time is very very good!

Are you happy with the PC?

No problem mate! Any questions just ask!

A lot of good info here, but due to very quick development on the IT market I need to read a lot and this thread will become obsolete with in months -) Like Bill Gates said once about car industry "If General Motors had kept up with technology like the computer industry has, we would all be driving $25 cars that got 1,000 miles per gallon."

I build PC's for people, so if anyone wants a custom build PC for their needs please PM me!
