Ive had multiple people try to put on the boss kit but the small thing sticking out to the side on the top image is stopping it from sitting flush and when the wheel is on with it it makes a terrible squeaking noise

Are you talking about this bit?

It should be spring loaded, check it's not jammed or bent.

Thats the horn contact bit, spring loaded.
The holes on the boss lineup with the plastic, that's your indicator cancel :)

They can squeak a bit unfortunately. However, it should be pushing hard against it.
You can put a bit of grease on it to help it slide without squeaking.

The boss kits dont generally sit flush, there is always a gap.

Is the boss kit definitely the right one? Is it a decent brand or just something cheap? The silver connector ring on the boss looks pretty dented up!!!

The picture may well be generic. Its the HKB boss that I have, no fitment issues.
Agree, that's what I have on mine and it fits fine. There is a bit of a gap between the boss and the steering column cowling, but that is just normal for a boss kit
