Hi, I would need some help too. I recently bought a tercel with a 4efte and a toyota lsd transmission in it(same transmission as a starlet gt). I want to do a little tune up onn it but i dont know what kind of specific oil goes in that transmission and no one seems to be able to help me where i live. I only know that transmission with lsd diff needs a different oil tan a trans with regular diff. Can someone help me here please? would really appreciate.

What you need is a 75w-90 GL 4/5 oil. A Silkolene Syn5, Motul Gear 300 and Millers CRX 75w-90 are good choices

I checked mi things carefully a im afraid i'll have to do a complete oil flush of my transmission. Does somebody know how many liters of oil i'll need to fill the transmission full?

The Motul Gear 300 wasn't designed for use in an actual seperate LSD, but it's ok in an LSD gearbox.

I think you need about 2 litres, I don't have an definite figure though.

I'm not a big fan of RP oils, there are better oils that aren't over priced like RP is over here (Just looked at a quart of their gear oil and it was £30 delivered). It's not bad, just overhyped and over marketed. You can get something just as good for half the price

I just recently put Millars 75w90 fully synthetic for syncromesh gearboxes into my gearbox.

Expensive but it feels quite nice even when cold.

I have recently fitted a gearbox with a mechanical lsd unsure of make cusco kazz or trd. The diff works well however when turning at slow speeds it makes a clunking noise, I was told to do drive in a figure of 8 for 30 minitues to allow it to bed in. I did this and it hasn't made any difference.

I'm using 75w 90 fully synthetic oil at the moment

Is there a running in oil for lsds? would you recommend using small amount of friction modifier 6-10% mixwd with the gear oil?

It could well be just the way the diff is, they aren't really designed for slow speeds. You could try the Redline Friction Modifier and see what happens

Hi

Don't go for the Castrol one, a straight 90 is no good for that gearbox. I had a look on that site and understood very little, but I think you'd be best off looking at a GL4/5 rather than just a GL5, I think the Shell Spirax is a GL4/5.

thanks man. why is it bad for the tranny running straight ? how about mobilube 80w-90?

is it ok to use?

Straight 90s are generally a diff oil rather than a gear oil, ideally you want one that is a gear oil and diff oil. 80w-90, or even better 75w-90 is what you want to go for. That Mobilube should be fine.
