GT + Baby = ?

Easy question for some who have done it...

The girl has a wee one on the way... I kinda know that ideally i should be thinking of a saloon of some sort as a daily driver instead of the GT, but they just don't do it for me.

Is it really that awkward having a baby in a starlet?

I think it would be well cool, me and my sparco's and he/she in its wee recaro  lol

not an issue really space will be tight in the boot for a buggy tho. my biggest concern was safety if in an accident.

Still the mrs has the sensible car now, only used the gt if it was a must. That was with two kids..........

I know people will probs hate me for saying this as most people dont agree with my sense of humor but...

When i saw the title I immediatley thought "splat".

Back onto topic however, my mate had his 2 little'uns in the back of his xr2. Probs wasnt the safest thing but they managed to fit em in there.

how many people u see with kids or babies with a saxo/corsa/clio from 1 litre to 1.4 litre. the starlets r solid built little cars possibly more so than the others in that list so think of it that way

I had a hilux before so I know about solid, protective vehicles. I carry a 3 yr. old and 10 yr. old in the back of the GT but only shopping on weekends and the odd trip away. I find the starlets roomy enough in the back, it takes a bit more time loading the kids and they sometimes trip over the front seat belts when getting in and out! I`ll admit as a fact it`s not a vehicle to be hit with by another vehicle due the "smallness" but they feel solid and safe when driving. With good brakes, instant power and responsive, stable steering I would think a skilled driver would be able to avoid most serious coliisions. They handle weight easily and cruise well on the motorway fully loaded. Take care driving and you`ll be fine.

Starlet is about the same sixe so i dont see any prob's, remember when there young there feet dont go in foot well's so thats a good spot for bag's on trip's out...

I have always had little 3door cars thou out my kids being born right up to now and ther 13 - 11...

Keep the GT you know it makes sence....

Congrats bud ! When is yours coming ?

My baby boy will be here on Nov 12 this year if all goes according to plan =) can't bloody wait !!!

Here he is, already in driving position:

As for the cars the fiancée and I drive, I have a company car (Fiat Punto Turbo) and I bought her a Fiat Bravo which we'll take delivery of tomorrow, it is quite a big car with 4 doors and a spacious boot and, before all, safety !!! I reckon once you'll be a dad, priorities have to change... no more buckets with 6 point harnesses and rollcages galore, but a sensible (boring) family spec slouch.

Still went for the turbocharged Bravo with 140 BHP and 18" inch wheels, so there's compromise to be had as well...

I'll take the kit out in the Glanza as well, but I'll be sure to drive veeery fucking carefully.

GT + baby = modder turned family man :)

the GTs and glanzas are our toys - heck that's why we're even members here in the first place. and as rightfully mentioned, once the kids come along then priorities immediately change. if you can, keep the GT/glanza for solo flights and or race-track action and if the pocket is not too 'holey', add on a family car that may be safer/bigger/more boring :)
for those of us who can't afford a 2nd car, keep it sensible. drive safe - esp with the lil weasels in the back. put a pin under your right thigh just to remind you not to go on-boost unnecessarily :D

& while on this topic, the rear center seat (whether it has a lap belt only or 3-point belt) is the safest position a young child should be in - plus, most car seats allow lap- and 3-point belt configurations to hold them down. better when there are adults on either side to cushion them in case of a crash. if no adult-cushions are available :) , you can get some sorta padding like a big duvet to put on either side of the car seat. something soft with as little mass as possible because in a crash when the Gs go up, a quarter-pound weight can turn into a missile. if no adult-cushions or padding is available then just trust in your car seat to do its' work. reason for the rear center being the best place to place a child is because it shields them from any impact coming from whichever side of the car.
