Help, Sheared off bolt whilst replacing thermostat.

When I was replacing my thermostat earlier today, I sheared off a bolt thread when I was tightening it back in place.

Basically what I am left with is one normal thread and the other is like a small plastic peg.

Which means that I cant fasten it up properly or drive the car.

The affected part of the car: (this picture is not mine, on this one both threads are fine.

Does anyone know the best way to resolve this and the parts that I might need to buy.

Help is appreciated and will be repped.

Cheers

im assuming you snapped off one of the studs, or have you ripped the stud out of where it screws into the housing? if you have just snapped the stud, you can remove it and just stick a 6mm bolt in it.

I snapped off the top part of the stud, with the thread on it. So I'm not able to screw it back on.

By removing the stud, is it best to just snap it off at the base?

Grab hold of the stud with some form of grips or pliers and unscrew it out of the cylinder head.

Thanks very much for the help lads, have repped, apart from Texx, as I need to 'share the love' before I can.

I'm working the daylight hours till saturday, will post then if I run into any problems.

I've replaced loads of studs, bolts and nuts on mine after they've broken or just worn out. Got nice, high quality replacements from work, so I know they'll last.

spray some wd40 or similar on it to soak in overnight. should give you the best chance to get it removed in the morning then :)
