nah megasquirts arnt shite, they offer the same basic features as a stand alone unit. Just you have to build it yourself and wire it in yourself which aint easy.

Apparently someone was trying it but not sure who they are or how they got on (my arnt i the helpfull one) I would be interested in this as im a bit of a dab hand with a soldering iron and the megasquirt 2 (the "best" one) is like 275 USD.

From what ive seen guys, the megasquirt just isnt for the tunning guy anymore, thers alot of programming for it. you need a guy that doesnt know about cars and knows about computers and stuff by the looks of things..... maybe thats why mechanics call them shit because its too complicated for them.

their only called cheap kits id say is cos you dont get it fitted for you, and you dont get much with it. thats all.

its cheap because thats all your buying is the box.

looks quite complicated is what im saying... and it takes a hell of a long time to set up.

I just finish the assemply of a megasquirt ms-2 pcb3.0 and was very easy.Anyone can do and it has all the informations to do so. It is a step by step assemly and it takes only 5-6 hours.Test included. Then you have all the feature that can a standalone of a differrent brand can provide you with only 300USD. You can buy also a pre-assempled unit if you want.I am planing to install it by my own and tuning also at a state dyno. Easy to programm and help can be found on msefi.com where it is a big forum by magasquirters or you can read the megamanual. Wiring, tunning, sensors, ignition control and all your questions can be solved there. I will try distirbutorlless and ford edis.
And because i see many are asking here about megasquirt 4efte i will write down some notes as a guide in parallel with my installation next mont.

Im running megasquirt on my 5e-fhe with 4e pistons and a 4E head. I used ford EDIS for ignition... full standalone. It is hard to figure out at first but I haven't had ANY problems with it... runs like a champ and has TONS of features.

18 psi every day!

weve put a 36-1 on the crank pulley, weve just had a few problems... were a bit of a guinie pig i think. its not been a very cheap option for us so far.

Mine was quite cheap... just the cost of the parts and a bit of wiring.

If you aren't afraid to do a lot of research, wiring, and mild fabrication it is a very nice option!

is there maybe a write up you can do to help us (me :)) with converting to a ford edis distributorless ignition?

many thanks

im running a MS1 and im wanting to upgrade to probably MS2 and controling ignition via this method for more effective combustion

where would the sensor then be located or rather how would the MS then be controlling the spark timing

sorry if this is abit of an Amateurish question, trying to do as much research as [possible, just not sure where to start, but i know i definately want to go the distributorless ignition route to maximise gains

thanks

I understand the mapping tables are much smaller than more expensive EMU's so they arnt really upto automotive standard?

Your best bet is Fatman for critical info. Good guy and likes to share things.

You can run ford edis 4 for distirbutorlles ignition and you can buy trigger wheel and sensor from diyautotune.
Also read the megamanual TWICE as all the infos are there.
Also a good forum for succes storys and wiring and troubleshooting is www.msefi .com
