1992 MR2 Turbo (REV 2)

Item Condition: Used, see info below, runs fine etc

Price and price conditions:1300ono

Extra Info:

Completely honest sale:

1992 (J reg) Toyota MR2 Turbo (Rev 2)

87500 miles

I have had this car since July last year. Tax til July, MOT September
Before anyone asks, it does not state Turbo on the logbook but I have insured it as a Turbo. Infact now that I think of it, many Imported Turbo cars I have had, have not stated Turbo on the log book

Since I have had it, it has had the following work carried out:
New clutch (oem)
Brake pads all round with new discs on the front
Refurbished alternator
New battery
Coolant change
Gearbox oil change
New rocker cover gasket
Spark plugs
Dizzy cap
Engine oil (& filter) changed (Super Mobil semi synthetic 10W40)
Brighter headlight bulbs
Polyurethane (whatever it is) gearbox selector bushes

It has quite alot of service history with it for before I got it

Mods & special standard equipment:
17" Momo Corse Alloy wheels (budget tyres)
Forge Actuator
Manual boost controller
Mongoose Exhaust system (cat-back)
Short-shift kit
Autopista Spoiler
Optional air scoop feeding air filter box
Rear parking sensor
Lowered suspension (30mm I think)
Roof lining has been re-done in black (looks nice apart from the pillar gauge which is not to my liking)
Turbo Timer
Razo gear knob (not to everyone's taste)
Clifford alarm with proximity sensor
3 Gauges F&F (presumably cheap fast & furious ones)oil, volts & boost although only the boost and volts work
Speedo Converter
Vibe Black Air 6 x 9's
Speed sensitive steering
Steering fog lamps (lights turn with the steering wheel)
Folding mirrors
Blue led bulbs for the dashboard (rubbish to be honest but were there before I got it)

Ok, now the issues with the car, but before I continue, these issues are not a problem to me, the car drives great, looks great, really needs to be seen:

Knock Sensor needs replacing (error code 52) - the timing has been retarded by 30 degrees to compensate for this. So although engine light comes on, still performs as it should do, no pincing / detonation etc. Also note that because the knock sensor is faulty, the car will not boost above 9psi (sort of a safe mode) although can still do 0-60 in 6 seconds and easily challenge sports cars of today

Since having the clutch done, there is an occasional drone that comes from back of the car at 2250rpm but hasn't got any worse / better and doesn't effect performance
Passenger front damper needs replacing
Small crack in windscreen (passed 2 MOT's like this) can't be seen from inside the car
Sometimes have difficulty selecting 2nd gear when cold (cured by double-clutching)
Heaters don't get very hot (although enough to keep warm in the winter)
Air con does not work
Driver door seal needs renewing (occasionally lets the odd drip in when moving but nothing major)
Scratch / damage on rear quarter below quarter window on drivers side(only be seen close up)
Controls on drivers door for the central locking don't work
Central locking doesn't work (i.e. passenger door doesn't open with drivers door)
Wobbly wing Mirrors
Gear shift gaiter is rubbish (god knows what previous owner was thinking)
Steering wheel started to perish so have taped with black insulation tape
Speedo sticker has not been put on well (slightly crinkled on the edge - same as temp and rev counter)
Drivers seat bolster is wearing (although not got any worse since I had the car)
Split in spoiler (only seen close up)
Aerial doesn't go up/down with the motor (could be worn/slipping cogs as motor is working)
Some of the panels on either side (air ducts for the engine) are slightly loose, not sure why
Stereo turns itself off if turned up too loud (i.e. above 22) surround missing from stereo also
Bonnet catch clip broken (improvised with some hair bands)

All of these issues aside (hard to put them aside I know) but they are not that bad. As mentioned before, the car drives / performs / looks great, just depends how fussy you are really. BHP is over 200 (guessing it would be around 220 - Dyno print out to prove although need to explain that it made 190bhp when the dizzy cap was replaced, however when driving home, the performance was considerably poor. Took it back to the garage and realised that the previous owner had retarded the timing so we set the timing back to 30degrees and the performance is spot on therefore the bhp is alot higher than 190

Anyhow. I bought this car, happy the way it was knowing what needed to be done etc. I am still very happy with the car, always a joy to get into it and drive it. A real head-turner as you can tell from the pictures!

New commitments force sale of the car

Any questions etc can be answered no problems, if further pics required, no problem
