NA civics with Bee R launch control

I was under the impression that the Beer rev limiter adjusts your timing to enable fuel to ignite in the exhaust manifold and spin up your turbo on launch removing lag? If this is the case how can this work on an NA civic?

bee r is not anti lag..
it cuts ignition, hence the big bangs and flames as petrol ignites in exhaust..
