The only thing I can think of is that the black wire isn't sufficiently grounded. Try connecting it directly to the body of the car somewhere making sure you get a good connection and try it again.

It looks like you only need to swap the alarm wires around if the alarm remote's don't work once you've got out of the car and the timer is doing it's thing. I wouldn't worry about this for the time being, try and get the timer working first.

There's an M6 threaded hole above the drivers kick panel, you could attach it there with a 10mm bolt.

Does the handbrake warning lamp in the dash come on and go off properly when you pull the handbrake lever and release it?

It does seem a little odd. If the timer is connected to an earth and a live I don't see why it wouldn't power on. Maybe the timer is faulty?

You could try wiring the timer red wires to the plain white wire from the back of the ignition switch rather than the white/red. I don't think it'll make much difference though.

ok i played about with wires and iv got it to come on when i turn ignition on but it goes straight off again the only wire i havnt touched is the one that goes into the ecu could that be wrong

It's very possible. The grey/black wire is the ignition feedback wire from the ignition coil igniter, it basically tells the ECU everytime it fires the coil. The igniter may have another pinout that drives the rev counter. Just disconnect that pink wire for the time being, the instructions say the timer will just display 'RPM' if it doesn't receive a signal, so wont hurt if it's not connected.

well iv tryed that lol my only other thought is the toad alarm i have if not that then the timer must be faulty :(

The Toad alarm should have 2 fuses in it's wire harness somewhere. A 5amp and a 15amp I think. You could try removing both these fuses, that should disconnect the alarm from the circuit and eliminate it as a potential cause. Just make a note of which fuse goes where.

Have you tried disconnecting the grey wire between the timer and the relay module? Can't see how it would make a difference, but could be worth a shot.

I've discovered something this morning that could be the cause of the problem your having. The immobiliser circuits in the Toad alarm only go open circuit when the immobiliser system is armed and the ignition is then switched on, basically when the system detects an attack on the car.

Even if the alarm is not armed, the immobiliser will passive arm after 30 seconds of the ignition being switched off. If your alarm is wired to give an ignition cut, it could be the timer trying to power on that is causing the Toad immobiliser to kick in and go open circuit, so basically the timer could be indirectly switching itself off just by trying to power on the ignition. Try pressing the unlock button on your alarm fob and see if the Timer comes back on.
