Ok bought a used engine earlier this yr as i could
not get my car to past etest. engine came with G/box
While inspecting I notice both when turning
1 axle the other axle turn the same direction , I then check
My old g/box but only one wheel turn at at a time. Thinking My old g/box was
Faulty I swap in the engine & box I bought. All went smooth ,until I went for a short test drive first corner felt like the car was falling apart well the g/box & or axles. Mad clunky sound. Turn around went home check for loose bolts but everything was all tight and install correct. So went for another test drive car drive fine go straight but once turning loud clunky noise again . Didn't like the horrible sound iit was making so a swap but my stock g/box to the engine I bought. Test drive no chunky. Curious now I took g/box apart & found a LSD in it ,after lots of google search how it works I now want to install it back in the car but without the annoying clunky rattly sound. pic below

It seem nice and tight together nothing seem loose , there seems to be a bunch
Of lil metal plates stack together inside and they are different shape. If that helps.

Anyone know what brand this thing is?
What setting is it :1way ,1.5 or 2?
What could cause it to clunk?
What to look for if Is it broken?
Sorry for the long post but am lost with this thing.

That looks a lot like my old cusco 1.5 diff. It is normal for it to clunk and shake its the way the diff works, you can get oil for it that will help it a bit but you will never get it to be smooth!! its the way it is! but its a fantastic fined too!

I, looks like a cusco, open it up mate before refitting and make sure everything's ok.

Very possible every thing is, but I've found these diff snap inner lugs of the clutch plates.

And you've got good piece of mind you don't have to take it out again lol

Cusco Bugger! Google cusco lsd every1 talking about this clunk noise

To :Rob H , i can get royal purple 75W-90 & multi gear oil 80W-90 for LSD locally
or motul 90pa online here in canada would
any of these be good for keeping clunky noise down?
Last time I only put castrol sae 90 gear oil don't even think it was for LSD didn't know

To: yaristurbo , ok I will take it apart , before I do :
1 . is the lil disk in there spring loaded?
Example: if I loosen the bolts stuff goes fly about?
2. do I just look for broken parts or worn disk?
3.Do I have to remove the bearing?

Ok kool took it apart and did have a lil tension like you said.
Was easy to take apart , good thing is : nothing's broken .
from the looks of it Seem like its fairly new or at least in good condition.
1 thing I did notice was tht the 3 of the 4 Phillips head screws
Holding the 2 covers together was loose I undo them with a screwdriver
With no force . The 4th one I had to use wrench.

Also I do notice on the ring gear
Some of the teeth have lil chips on the edges should I swap the ring?
