Hi all, need a bit of help, had the gtt about 5weeks now, brought it knowing it needed a couple of trivial issues sorting, nothing major, wind deflectors needed changing as one was broke, glove box as that was rattling its tits off, manifold was cracked.all was/seemed fine overall when i bought it,so i changed the manifold, now the problem i have now is the exhaust kicks out a cloud of white smoke when you come of boost and a nice barbecue smell, any help/advice would be much appreciated.

IT could be the stem seals, it could be the turbos, it could be something else. You need to narrow down whether the white smoke is oil, coolant, or just water. Then you can make a better guess but like said earlier...the valve stem seals can cause this. Does the car blow out a puff of smoke upon startup when it has been sitting for a few days?

confused

No smoke on start up,there seems to be a fine oil mist come from the exhaust when sat stationary and revved hard.the car drives fine and boosts normal,no warning lights on dash, pcv valve was replaced in april this year,a little oil comes from the rocker breather filter hardly noticable, hasnt used any water or oil, no mayo on oil filler cap or dipstick, previous owner said the turbo was replaced how true that is i dont know,am pissed off because it only started doing it when i changed the exhaust manifold, after its been ran then left to idle it seems to sound like a boxer if that helps.

I would advise to do a compression test, this will give you an indication of how healthy the engine is and only takes 10 mins.
Water is white smoke, oil is blue smoke and fuel is black.

Pull the turbo-intercooler pipe off and check for any oil, a small thin film is normal, anymore than this the turbo is dead. You can also check the turbine side by removing the cat/decat.

Afternoon folks, there was no oil in the intercooler pipe or the old cast manifold,so im thinking now that it may just need a new turbo and do a compression test to be sure its not the head gasket,i will let u all know how i get on.

remove the turbo inlet and check if theres any shaft play. lookin at ur symptoms i think ur turbo is gonna die. you may need a repair kit or else a new turbo if thats the case.
if the turbo is not the case then you might have a valve leak.
