I have a problem with a wee 1997 Honda Civic Coupe 1.6 petrol that i thought maybe you guys could help with. I'm not expecting a complete diagnosis but just a rough idea of what to do next.

Well the car is not running great at all. It idles fine but upon starting it smells rich straight away and puffs a fair bit of black smoke out the back and then does this again when you rev it at idle.

When you take the car for a drive, it goes fine at low revs not under load but if you try to accelerate harder it kangaroos a bit and hits like a wall and doesnt go past a certain revs, usually around 4k.

Does this sound like solely a fuelling problem causing this or a mix of bad timing too or could i be looking at something more serious?

The only thing is that the fuellng cant be altered on the car so it must be a sensor or something causing the overfuelling, any ideas on what to replace first?

Any input appreciated. Cheers
