Overheating

Any one came across gt going into the red on temp gauge I have pressurised the system and it holds the pressure but the coolant over flows in the expansion bottle I thought headgasket but not sure the rocker cover gets extremely warm also anybody any ideas

that would be the first thing to check. after all these years they do eventually stop working correctly. easy cheap fix, but get it done asap as it can lead to headgasket problems if left

you can do. but with the winter coming, for the sake of about a tenner you may as well fit a thermostat and then the car will get up to operating temp quickly.

right mate the same thing happens to me when i go over 130mph although it hasn't done it for a long time as everyonre suggests above.

1. rad cap buy a higher pressure radiator cap 1.1 -1.3 bar
2. buy a new thermostat these things seem to break all the time im on my second one now in less than 2yrs i would highly recommend getting one from toyota and not from nipparts etc.
3. have you had a sniffer test done for headgasket most places do it for free.

as dac69er its more than likely the thermostat.
