ringlands?

ive taken the head off and is there any way of telling if the ringlands are gone without taking the piston out i.e piston float or visible damage as everything looks spot on from the top and the bore is perfect
but had low compression in cyl 1 and 2 think it might just be the headgasket

no way unless its gone badly and damaged the bore. you really need to pop them out.

bit of an arse, but you only need to pop the sump off.

The only way to check them is not to be lazy :haha::p :D
You might have some luck....
You should be able to see the top compression ring.
Keep a real good eye on it and turn the crank back and forth so that you move the piston up and down slightly.
If the ring moves in the land then the land is really bad.

But just remove the pistons and clean, re-ring and bearings :)
