my car just failed its MoT on the handbrake not being efficient enough?

i adjusted the handbrake cable and then sent it back in but they are still saying its not good enough :slap:

apparently its only working at 11%

thing is 4 clicks on the handbrake and its not moving!

the MOT station have now failed it for it twice, anyone know what they are on about and how to improve the situation?

remove the caliper and give it a damn good clean and lubricate everything. make sure the handbrake mechanism moves freely.

check the pads are ok and the discs, sometimes rust can build up where the pad hasnt been making good contact on the disc.

rough up the discs and pads with sandpaper/emery cloth and re install everything, make sure you grease the backs of the pads and the bits they slide on etc.

with all that done, re adjust the handbrake.

now go for a drive down the road and pull on the handbrake a few times, quicte hard and for a few seconds at a time, get them to bed in a bit. dont get them too hot though as they may glaze over.

now thats all done try again. if you still fail you will either need new handbrake cables or you will need to recondition your caliper, or both.
