Serious electrical issues :(

Bought car 3 weeks ago.

The battery drained a week ago. It wouldnt jump start - I had to charge it to just enough to start it to get it to a garage and buy a new battery. Bear in mind the charge began to GO DOWN at about 11 volts even though it was plugged in.

Got a new battery, since the new battery the car has been running like a tractor. Revs to about 2500 then backfires till I change gear, it wont speed up past 2500 revs. It also often dies under about 1000 revs, even when clutch is down.

Yesterday my new battery was dead again. We bump started it, and while driving the lights were getting dimmer and dimmer, and eventually after about five minutes I went under 1000 revs and it died. battery had drained while driving.

Car is currently sat in a car park (pushed it there!) and I am lost at what to do! :(

PLEASE HELP
note: the garage that i bought the battery from said that the alternator was fine in their tests. although im not ruling it out.

alternator or alt-fuse gone

as aidan says, check your running voltage. should be ~14vdc. either your alternator has retired or the alternator fuse is blown. check in the engine bay fusebox, fuse F11 - near the centre middle.

that's what i'd do first. report back with more symptoms after the corrective actions have been taken.. :)
