Try the local scrap yard they will be plenty for scrap, there is round our town,subarus are like dog shit!

im not sure it had a vf28??? now i think it got td04???

its ment to be a wrx with sti kit but sti on clocks in dash so is it a real sti?
how do u tell the difference?

Do you know the chasis code of the car. Its on the front left suspension mounting point in the engine bay.
VF28 was used in the P1.
TD04 was used in the uk cars and also the import wrx wagon.
If you post up the chasis code I will tell you what car you have.

You need to find the model code. It should be beside the VIN.

Your car has a WRX engine according to the engine code.
GC8D48D should be your applied model which will make your car a 97 WRX saloon and it should have a TD05 turbo.

just realised td04 for uk spec
td05 jap spec (which we not got!)

we think it tdo4 on car now!

so which is better td04 or vf28 turbo?

car came with vf28 turbo, garage changed it to so called uprated td04!!!!?

do u think the car may of been maped to vf28 and when they put the other turbo it caused it to brake? the exhaust is black(overfueling?) and chucking out loads of smoke!

The vf28 turbo fins were broken so new engine

sutuation:
car bought with broken bottom end
took to be repaired in garage, fixed new engine 1
drove car for few days noticed smokin
car back to garage
said turbo1 gone, so new turbo2 still smoke
then said if not turbo must be engine so new engine2

still in garage now both turbo and engine broken


taken car out of garage!

The VF28 is better than a TD04 imo. The garage you are using seem pretty useless.
Have you had a new bottom end, rebuild or replacement? Do you know if the MAF sensor is working?
It could be a number of things?
Regarding the mapping of the car. Your car cant be mapped it will need a stand alone ecu, piggyback ecu or a chip. It may have a cheap chip fitted and that is what the problem is.
Your best bet would be to go on scoobynet.co.uk and find someone in your area that knows about impreza's and get them to look at it.
Or speak to David at API engines http://www.apiengines.com/index3.php regarding your car.

we only just bought the car after all this happened got car for cheap bf a mechanic but only deals with bmw and does not know much about mods. thanks for everything very useful x x x
