Can be beasts of cars if done right.

SR20DET engine. 2.0L 16V DOHC. Garret T3 Turbo. 220bhp. 4WD 5 Speed manual.
Have heard that the gearboxes are prone to problems though.

As with all turbo hatches there are some dogs out there that have been poorly looked after and the boost up'ed without supporting mods etc...

T25 not T3 ;)

Ive been in a few and raced ALOT of them.
Standard they are shite. But with a few basic mods they are very quick. Especially of the line but the gearbox and clutch are the weakpoints.
Fine if you dont launch.

Basic mods and up the boost to a bar should see 300hp and they run a t28 turbo. and as already said gearboxes dont like launches

It all depends if you get a decent one. I know a guy who had one and had problem after problem with it.

I'd be very picky about which one you bite the bullet and get if your set on buying one.

theres a reason why they so cheap lol cus not many ppl want them and ppl who have got them want to get rid after not very long lol.

performance IMO is nowhere near that of an early scoob or evo unless you tune them as said but the gearboxes are very dodgy, and clutches too.

besides that the handling aint amazing and the fuel consumption even for a 2l turbo, is barely believable.

bout the only good thing i can say bout them is they look ace. thats it. lol tune ur starlet dude. decent spec td04 starlet would stick with a 300bhp pulsar easy

i owned a forged one done by norris designs,it was rapid but the fuel consumption was horrendeous!!!!they drink more fuel than scobbys!!!unless you have deep pockets stay well clear!!

My mate owns an absolutle minter he imported from Japan as already said not the fastest standard but few mods and they go well, His is completly standard engine wise and he is going to sell it for around 4k so for that money u could already buy a tuned clean starlet. Suppose its down to preference really. You dont see many of them on the roads anymore which is a good thing too as i could name about 7 glanzas and a few starlets i about a 10 mile radius of my house lol

Had one years ago when they were vitually unheard of. Ran it at a bar and was pretty quick, fuel consumption is crap but never had any clutch. gearbox or rust issues. You'll be lucky to find a good one.
