when piston one is at top dead centre, what valves should be open. i think none if im correct then the next valves to open should be outlet valves, also does the piston go down and back up before the exhaust valve opens,

thanks

as the pistons half way down the exhaust valve should be opening as the piston reaches the bottom as it starts to come back up the inlet should start to open and close by the time the pistons half way to get its compression stroke

why not use the timming marks these starlet engines are simple to time up

hope this helps mate

my timing is kinda high. as i start the engine in the morning it usually goes up to 1200 rpm, which i think is normal. however, as the engine warms up it would go down to 1000 rpm only and would normally take more than 1 hour of driving. i hadnt noticed this since i changed oil and changed spark plugs. whats weird is it runs fine. can someone give me advise please. thanks!

Where does the temperature gauge read in the first hour of driving?

it varies. but most likely it is in the mid gauge. i also notice thick white smoke once idle is normal at 1000 rpm. do i need to have it overhauled?
