When i change gears, mostly from 1st to 2nd its not that comfortable. It doesn't slip into gear like my other gears do. Dont get me wrong it goes in no problem but it just feels as if your hitting something while putting it into 2nd? Anyone else had similar problems?

i know what ya mean, mines like that. Its a bit clunky if that makes any sense. Im gonna change my gear oil to a decent quality one and see what happens.

starlet gearboxes are notchy from new, so its no major worry. mine was fine for 3 years then 3rd gear got a bit crunchy when changing gear at higher revs. if driven normally or if i just changed gear a little slower it was fine!

I just put brand new oil in today and no difference. Must just be clunky from factory. How much is a gearbox for the GT, brand new or extremely low mileage??

brand new, probably more than the car is worth (no offence intended) second hand boxes range from £100 upwards. no quarantee alot of the time though as i found out with a supposed 'mint' box

I get the same problem, all gears are pretty notchy, will grind in 2nd and 3rd if you launch it hard.

Has anyone got any experience rebuilding one of these gearbox's? I've rebuilt a few Ford and Honda's, they cant be all that different?

Are there any special tools required?
