Well i love cars and want to learn how to do all this stuff and im not gonna learn if i keep passing it to expensive mechanics so might aswell give it a go and will take my time and should be alright

the head has to come off anyway, if the gasket looks all good then move in further and drop the 2 pistons off. this is dead simple anyway with just taking the sump off.

but like most have said i would expect to see a big hole between 1-2 on the gasket. although i've had pistons crack and not cause heavy breathing until over 1 bar of boost under that the car ran like a dream, so things aren't always textbook

Sounds like headgasket, was your car getting upto temperature alright before this?
The hardest bit will be timing it up, but of you use some tip ex and mark the cam pulley tooth and belt tooth along with a mark on the head you can't go too far wrong :)

Cheers for all the davice guys :) will start taking her apart when my mate gets his monster german/spanish piece of shit out my garage lol how long roughly do you think it would take to complete the job?

And sorry adam yeah was getting up to temperature slowly but has been eating coolant, i think i remember when it went.. Was goin down a duel carriageway and boosted it at about 0.6 bar to about 100mph an when i got to a hundred just made a massive bang from the engine which at first i though fuck lol but wierdly it carried on driving ok for about another week and thought maybe it was fuel cut but then out of no where it decided to just die on me up a hill :s managed to get it home and hasnt moved since

Ah right yeah, sounds like something similar happened to me the other day :(
Check the cylinder head to make sure its straight as well, don't want to put a new headgasket on it for it to go again a day later.
Will probably take a few hours if your competent enough with a socket set, don't forget to use the correct cylinder head bolt tool, or you could be there for a long time trying to get out rounded off bolts :)

How can i check that its straight? And will i need to skim the head? Im pretty mechanically minded so socket set is my best friend lol ive got a headbolt tool that i got from tmd last year so will dig it out :)

Best way I find to check is get a metal rule, place it across like 5 points on the cylinder head, get a torch and shine it at the bottom of the rule, if you can see the light on the other side then it's not straight and will deffinatly need a skim. If your unsure take it to an engineering place and they will check for you. It's better to skim it than not skim it.

Just to let you know aswell mate the exhaust will backfire with a super loud bang when it hits fuel cut if your foot is kept on the accelerator then its possible the car is in limp mode which it then doesnt drive properly!(basically if you dont no about limp mode you instantly assume your car is fucked lmao like i did :O) try to check for codes and then see what they are if you just have code 34 reset ecu by pulling out the efi fuse for 20 seconds! as for headgasket my mate used this stuff when his head gasket went >>> http://www.steelseal.co.uk/ car is still running perfect now!! (Not sure if anyone on here has used it or would reccomend it probably not???

There is also a garentee that if it doesnt fix the head gasket you get your money back.... dont know how easy it is to prove or get your money back but they do slam a BIG GUARANTEED on the front of the bottle so they pretty confident on their product, im just thinking what may be worth a try in your case cheaper than getting headgasket done at a garage.

If im wrong here guys can you add in or let him know cheerrrs!!
