hey all who have karting experience
i want to build a rapid race kart for 3 reasons i love karting, i love building stuff and im not spanking 3k for something i could build myself cheaper.

I have searched the internet but am struggling to find out what is a good chassis what engines are able to fit on and so on

does anyone know of an article or guide on building a kart or know any websites where you can get everything you need to build a kick arse kart, oh and i want brakes all round too]

cheers guys

Hi mate, I think it would be worth going to look at/looking at pics of kart chassis and copying as cloesly as possible.

Kart designs are all quite similar now, cant see it being too hard if you can weld and source the correct tubing :)

seen a few karts with the rotex aprilia rs125 engine, about 35bhp, if u want a kick ass one i would try a rs250 engine or something similar

3k, you must be looking at almost brand new models!

Have a look for a 125cc shifter kart.
Pick them up for around a 1k to 1.5k if you look hard enough.

I can tell you now, there awsome fun, and extremly quick :D

sweet cheers guys, i can weld but not with ally, do karts use ally chassis's or steel

ally to be as light as poss but you could use cromolly which could be welded normally , i have an rgv250 lying in the garage with the 250 engine out and its so tempting to put in a cart @59bhp it would be mad

i used to race pro karts (2 x gx160 engines) on a 7kart chassis. but me and my father had up to 10 karts. the fastest one i had was an eco motor which was 35hp. also had tkm,s ect. i had more 4 strokes then 2 strokes because the tracks local 2 me had tuff noice regulations. if you get a prokart you can fit 2 200cc honda engines on it. with to of them on board you can lighten balance the cranks upgrade the carbs and filters , and gut the exhausts or make custom ones. on ebay you can pik a twin engine for up round 500. that would be a v good start. hope this helps
