What kind of power? Evo7 TD05 16g

Hi all. My wrx TD04 shat itself last week on my recently completed forged build. I'm converting to a twin-scroll TD05 16G from an Evo 7.

The specs are;

4EFTE
Wiseco pistons; standard size
Scat Rods
460cc injectors
Power FC
AEM Water/Meth Injection
Stock cams
Head shaved, ported and polished.

The manifold is being custom made with full length runners, keeping the original twinscroll function and of course, all the other usual supporting mods.

What kinda rpm might I get full boost and what power might I see with an extremely aggressive tune@ 25psi?

Thanks for any input in advance. :)

I heard that the twin scroll setup wouldn't be well suited to a 4e, it would struggle to spool the turbo, and it would have a lot of lag.

will make great power, 320 hp maybe, but will be slower on the road than a td04 4e unless you live somewhere where all the roads are long and straight

Odd....I thought the purpose of the twinscroll design in the first place was to reduce lag.

yeah the car's sole purpose is for drag and is revving to 8k. Plenty long, straight roads here. 4500-5000 full boost is more than ok.

Someone asked Sacha@Wepr that there should be a twin scroll kit for the starlets and he said that it's pointless as the engines have a small capacity. Not sure how true it is i've never used a twin scroll setup. Only going by what I heard :)

Some twinscrolls don't work that well on evo's, can't see them being any better on a smaller capacity engine.

Cool. Would update with results as it's fitted, powerband from 5000-8000 would be perfect for my needs so hopefully it works out. Ordered a full turbo gasket kit yesterday so it's just to get the flanges made and fabricate the manifold now. Thanks for the heads up guys, appreciate it.

Guys I went ahead with this turbo upgrade. Still in the middle of it, just to weld up the manifold and that's it. We kept the original Evo design of flow and wastegate separation.

Keep in mind we don't have access to the fancy stuff you guys have in our 3rd world island. It was made just using an arc welder, grinder and hack saw over a period of two days.

Using our conversion rate, it cost roughly £180 to make it using head flanges from a stock 4efte manifold, custom made turbo and downpipe flanges and a full ForcedPerformance Evo 7/8/9 gasket kit.

Just to weld up tomorrow and tune and it's done. Will update accordingly. Thanks for watching.

Good work there, looking forward to the results of what a twin scroll turbine can do on the 4E. What size is the turbine housing on the evo 7 turbo?..

this is funny im lookin at the pics and realized that the news paper said naparima bowl... lol your a trini arnt u.... what r u driving?

looks really good and that pipe is what i see used a lot in barbados as well....very strong

however, i am wondering if your 2 seperated head flanges will move when you actually weld the unit...is it possible to kind of join them with a piece of metal in the middle area?

I would bolt the head flanges to another 4E manifold before welding the runners up, a stock cast manifold would be perfect for the job.

2 pieces of advice to you

1. either bolt it to a head or measure and ensure the two head flange pieces pieces dont shift with heating and cooling from welding
2. ensure the two scrolls are kept dead separate to the wastegate face.

if what im working on falls thru i may ask you to line up one of these for me as im not that far from you.

gorganl2000, if you look closely at the mock up pics you'll see the head flanges are tacked onto the turbo flange to prevent exactly what you highlighted there. It can be seen here;

The head flanges are from a stock 4E manifold guys.

omikron, how everything was done piece by piece in the mockup everything is separated how it's supposed to be. It was a long, irritating, painstaking process to get each piece to line up effectively with our basic tools but we got thru. The manifold is STRONG :)...tested for leaks as well and decked. Some quick pics I snapped with my phone so sorry for the quality;

So the manifold's done, some final aesthetic work to be done...probably powdercoat later on or something but for now the actual manifold came out great. Will update again as I could.

Fellas the turbo is on. :)

Pulled it on 13psi and td04 map. Laggy up until 5000rpm but when boost comes on....Jesus Christ!!!! :eek: gears ran out in mere seconds :rockon:

Can't wait for this to be tuned properly@ 25psi :drive:

Will update!!

lolol..that was quite funny

yeah those big turbos always have that punch...you may be able to get the lag down a little with the tuning, but it probably will never feel like the td04 down low
however, the up top pull should more than make up for that
will await those updates
