Okay, so im 18 and ive bought myself a 1.3 gt turbo. The car is standard with only 60,000 miles on the clock. The only thing that isnt standard on the car is a turbo cool down timer. I picked it up for £ 1100, and im now looking at throwing some money at it. Being as i know next to nothing about the car, what thinks can i do to it to get more power out of it? ive heard removing air con is a good place to start, got about £900 to play with at the minute to get me some power, any tips would be appreciated!

if you dont no the history of the car a good service is a good place to start..

front mount the air filter
front mount intercooler
hks actuator
a/m manifold
d cat
full exhaust

I would start with giving the whole mechanical side of the car a good look over, this would include all high risk parts like brake system, suspension, steering. Then you can look at giving the car a service and replace whatever is neccessary like fluids, filters, other high wear parts etc.

The most effective performance mod if it's not already done is the Hi/Lo boost solenoid bypass which increases the boost pressure very small amount, but is also safe to do without touching or checking the fueling system. Removing the air con is a good idea for packaging issues with a front mount intercooler and will take some strain off the engine, but aslong as you don't regret on a hot day and wished you kept it lol. What you can do is think about what you want to achieve with the car then make a parts list from there, but anyone here who are all enthusiasts will tell you that list can become endless so it is a good idea to devise a plan first.

Have a read on the forum and search for what you need to find out, also look in the awesomly helpfull section and the members garage to see what route others have taken in there quest for more performance and power.

my advice? leave it standard, spend money on servicing and enjoy as is, chances are your insurance premium will suck any extra money you have anyways. get to know the car then improve from there :)

but, if you really want to mod, a rear anti roll bar is an essential bit of kit imo

X3 imo aswell most of these cars have a few dings on them and general scuffs why dnt u get aby little niggly bits sorted service like the lads have said and generally a good clean up plus bein 18 u will be ruined tryin to insure a high powered gt i would imagine your already paying a fair bit now

I would do the servicing and fit a good manifold and downpipe and get it to a tuner to get it set optimal and make sure things are 100%

as above leave it standard. have it clean, good look over, alloys and coilovers for the looks. If bita power mani ,Downpipe, fmic, air filter relocation kit his actuator to .8 that's my aim so be standard and safe as don't want problems.
