I've never driven a VTS, but I'm rather ashamed to say I did own a '99 VTR once, but only for about 3 weeks (it took me that long to find someone else to buy it :p). It was probably one of the worst cars I've ever owned and I've driven around in some crap in my time. The thing that annoyed me the most was not being able to successfully adjust the rear brake load sensing valve. It would either lock the rear under heavy braking making the rear step out quite unexpectedly or the rear brakes wouldn't do much at all, there didn't seem to be much in between. However, it was quite good on fuel, but that probably had something to do with the fact it couldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding.

If I can find some photos of the hideous thing, I'll post em up.

I never owned ^^ that one long enough to find out. It was replaced with the black Teg you can see on the drive within a week.

The seats were OK as long as you weren't sat in them for too long, but the harnesses were a pain in the arse. Once strapped in you had no chance of reaching the glovebox, could just about reach the stereo.

The problem to me is that the average saxo driver (not tarring the guy thats just bought one with the same brush, as he's said it's just a run around so fair play), are always the people that you see driving like plebs. If I drive through ipswich on a friday or saturday night I can pretty much guarentee (sp) that either a corsa, fiesta or saxo will either sit right up my arse or pull up alongside me. I'm not saying I bought a gt turbo to poodle round everywhere, but to me the centre of town is not the place to thrash your car.

These are the sort of people that give proper driving enthusiasts a bad name, and unfortunately being a hatchback, I find as a modded starlet owner that police/public/insurance companies brand me as a boy racer aswell. Only takes a minority to ruin it for the majority.

I'd have to agree with that. Though my mate (who owns a 106 gti) really would not be like that at all..he hates the whole cruising through town thing at night (well so do I actually)..lets just drive around in circles and waste our petrol..gaylords!!!!!

But ya, I have noticed of late a fair few vtr/vts being driven be degenerates who think cutting across three lanes to get next to you and the booting down the fast lane is smart (in the middle of the day no less)...and then later on they brag to their mates about how they 'destroyed' a starlet gt in a race when im jus sitting in my car tinking twats!!!!!!. Its like anything though, prices are coming down making these cars more accessible to people like that (recession and all)..ive seen vtrs goin for 800 euro! I dont like where all of this is headed..lol!

@ wingnut tuning... I know your not one of these people dude:)

you can't compare a vtr to a vts, thats like saying i had vtec civic and it was crap so i wouldn't buy a type r. friend had a vts and i had it for a while off him, very fun little car to drive, and as was said above there cheap!

erm from what i remember there is one difference really .
the 1.6 engine in the vtr is 8 valve the vts is 16v only 20hp in it.
i don't even think they changed the chassis just a bit tougher spring rates on the VTS
you said it yourself they are cheap so what makes yo think the VTS is so different from the VTR its just the engine. besides they are so poorly built and look so boring the only good thing is the insurance at group 7 that is it.
as if you are standing up for this piece of shit lol. its aweful in every way.
and i think you;ll find there are way more differences in an EK9 to an EK4 than in a vtr to vts. they are completely different cars but the VTR and VTS are the same mate just engine.

LMFAO people have different opinions on things mate, its a car forum,if you want someone not to say a bad word about your vts then join the Saxo forum!

Not everyone can like the same thing mate,i owned 3 Saxos took me a while to realise how shit they were!

Most Boyracers/Chavs have saxos esp Vts & Vtrs!

in fairness though, your input is normally uesless! like your tagline says it all, " if it ain't jap its either crap or scrap" or whatever it says, thats fairly closed minded don't you think?!
you can have stupid boyracers in anything. the saxo is what it is, a cheap bit of fun, and if it goes wrong then you don't have to spend too much.

well obviously theres a difference, its in the name really, not sticking up for anything, i see myself as a car enthusiast, not just a starlet enthusiast, would be a pretty boring place if everyone had the same views.

my point was people can't come on and say something is shit when they've probably never even been in one! there not as good as starlets, but there a cheap bit of fun, end of!! not everything has to live up to the reputation of starlets, he wanted a saxo and got one, fair play to him!!!
