3-speed to 4-speed

Ive a 4efe automatic for a winter runabout. Is the fte auto a fully mechanical box?

It would be nice to have a backup option if the fe unit failed. Also can anyone chart these ratios as it doesnt work in the usual gear ratio calculators

Yes mate, the ECU has a lot to do with it from what I can see. All part of the ECT-S system being introduced in 1992. The mk1's had a similar setup to what you have there from what I gather (never had a mk1 auto to play with unfortunately)

Cheers Jay. Decided to leave the auto alone and if all goes well maybe trade up come the spring.
