4EFTE is a Non-Interference Head?

i havnt had a 4efe apart but i know that 5efe engines are also no interference like 4efte's so i would take a good guess at saying the 4efe is no interference also. they way toyota do things normally its the same throughout an entire engine/chassis/gearbox series

as previously said cam belts on any e series engine needs to be replaced every 100,000km at least to save then inconvenience of it snapping. its good practice to replace the belt if you have it off to save doubling up on labour if the belt is nearing the end of its lifespan anyway.

same basic engine though isnt it. it uses the same head and id think the same sort of block just shitter rods and pistons

It will probably be due to the difference between the FE and FTE piston crown. The FE's piston crown is raised:

Where as the FTE piston crown is dished:

So a stock FTE will have a wider piston to valve clearance than an FE.

fe and fhe piston crowns are raised. but inlet valve cut outs are still there even on the raised part of the piston. exhaust valve clearances may be a bit closer than fte but are still non interference. (if factory valves, head gasket and un skimed head)
