5e Crank - How much abuse can it take?

holy fuck thats hi revving lol.. man with the cr the 4agze has its impressive to say the least!!

interesting though, as its kept pretty rich all through the rev range.. ir starts in 10s & stays in 12s.. well i understand about not wanting it leaner than 12.2 which makes sense.. no point in going to close to the limit.. but how come the choice to start in 10s?

is it to keep the engine colder down low? which would make sense in terms of producing power & i doubt it would ever be caught that low in the rev range..

mind u its still one fucking amazing tune!!
very nice!!

It starts at the 11s. Remember when tuning you start rich then go leaner, plus this car was also tuned for his elevation which is 5000 feet above sea level.

sorry to bring old thread back up but would i need to thoughen 5e crank for about 320-350whp or just balancing and lightening would do?
few people running prety extreme hp on them, but just want to be sure

In our experience only balancing, the cranks were never lightened. The crank was balanced to "0" as well as the aluminium flywheel. The pistons were weighed and three pistons were lightened to match the weight of the lightest piston and the same was done with the forged rods. The pressure plate was fitted to the flywheel and balanced to '0'. The reason for balancing the engine this way is, if you damage a piston or rod, you would only need to buy one piston or connecting rod and match the weight to the other three and the engine would be fully balanced once again. The crank pulley was also balanced to '0'.

I cant believe I never saw this thread  Ive just read the hole thing, quite interesting.

gedis - I run a cr of around 9.0:1. This wasnt intended but through changing plans its what it ended up as. I run PAR rods which are huge and are at the obese end of the scale. Ive been running up to 18psi and 75hp shot of gas for a little over a year and a half now making 300hp at the wheels on stock crank (only balanced). Its usually rev'd to 7800 but its been to 9500 with no troubles.

I have a lot of faith in the stock crank, Id balance it and leave it alone.

I also run a stock 5e flywheel and custom 5e clutch. Smaller clutch has less rotating mass and its closer to the centre. Who need an extra 12mm:p

This is a blast from the past! Harry didn't realise you were running 9:1 we are just under 8. What RON fuel are you using? With 18psi it's understandable though we will be running near 28psi on 98RON. Even so with your results it shows with a good tune that ulra low CR isn't neccessary..

Hahaha dont look at me Toby, I didnt resurect it:p. That was running 98ron. The car made 240hp at the wheels on 14psi and wouldnt go any further. With nitrous its up to 300hp but the 18psi is just a spike from the gas, it doesnt make any more power. Its not respnding to more timing or more boost so better fuel is a waste at the moment. It wasnt a choice to go so high. When I rebuild the engine ill be dropping the CR back to low 8's. The cars got loads of torque and power off boost and spools this turbo better than any other 1.3 or 1.5 Ive seen, which is great for daily driving but for what im chasing now I need to drop it a little.
