Sounds like rings, as this is what my car was doing and once the head was off the 2nd cylinder bore was fucked

Have you done a compression test, also a wet test if any of the cylinders are down in compression to check rings?

Could be rings aswell but most of the times rings give a more constant smoking issue than a press/let gas smoking issue.

Comp test will indicate better what the fault is.All wet test will show higher figures even in a brand new engine. Due to the volume the liquid will fill and due to the sealing properties of the oil whe applyed at metal combinations like rings and bore.

Got this problem too it was piston ring gone.
