Bottom end knocking

im looking to buy a starlet with a knocking bottom end how easy is this to fix is it a case of just chaging the big end bearings or isit a bit more involved than that ?

More than likely the crank will need a grind and new bearings.

personally id just pick up a good second hand engine for about £300-£400 and replace the whole thing, would make it so much easier.

Depends really, most of these engines are older than 15 years old so you could have any of the following really:

Crank regrind (almost a definate on an old engine)
New Bearings
Crank Shaft oil seal
May have bent a rod
Possibly new shells

Wont know until its opened up what the extent of the damage is. Because of the crank it will need the clearences checked also, most do it upon regrind, well ones i use do.
