Brake Discs - Standard or EBC or ..... discs?

Hi guys, I need to get both my front disc changed, is it better to get standard ones or some other brand, ebc? Any thoughts anyone?

EBC grooved disks will be better. If you can afford them, go for them. Leave rear disks as standard tho. Pads wise, red stuff are pretty shite. Go for yellowstuff if you really want EBC brand. Im running Hawk pads which are very good. Mintex pads are also good ones to go for.

Depends on your pockets Shelly, if you can afford a few extra quid for upgraded items it should be worth it during more spirited driving sessions. If you are just pottering about then stock and standard should suffice.

Hope that helps,

Jay

Thanks peeps for the reply. My car is pretty much standard, I've got standard disc and greenstuff pads. Someone told me that if i get grooved disc, they will wear down the pads quicker....... that true? I've upgraded before to the grooved 3G disc on my previous starlet SR before.

Hi Shelly,

If you can afford it, its always worth upgrading the braking side of your car. They may wear down a little faster but nothing that you would notice, just depends on your style of driving and how often you like to use the brake. Fresh Toyota discs with an uprated pad would be suitable but the uprated disc with an uprated pad would be best in my opinion.

Hi guys, i'm just looking through some threads on brakes. Sorry to jump in on your post shelly_star but I was wondering if anyone knows a good supplier for standard parts. I've had a mooch around google but most places only specialise in performance stuff.

I've had the car about 6 months now and the drivers side rear disc has always been heavily rusted and, i presume, not functioning. Recently it has started binding, i think the caliper closes down but wont release. I've loosened everything off today and oiled everything up but still does it so is bound to be a sticky piston. I didn't wanna mess about to much until I have some nice new discs and pads to put on. I'm struggling to find some tho.

Although I am tempted by grooved EBC stuff all round (ive seen yellow pads and grooved discs all round for £280) I am on a budget plus they breaks aren't exactly bad in the first place.

Any help appreciated. :)

Get new discs from CamSkill or Toyota, I managed to get rear discs and rear bearings from my local Toyota dealer cheaper than Camskill. They may be cheaper now.

Your binding issue may be because it's cold at the moment and the calliper is freezing and sticking mine was doing this to me that's why I had to buy new discs, I don't put my handbrake on in cold weather any more to stop the issue.

Like other people have said, there's no point in getting grooved discs all round, just uprate the front discs + pads and get braided brake lines.

I have EBC grooved discs and yellowstuff pads on my car now and I personally don't think they are anywhere near as good as my old car which had 3g grooved discs and Pagid pads. They are obviously a lot better than standard though!
